F inallyyyyy I’m able to write this post. Hello dears. It’s been a long journey to get to this point but I can finally say I have purchased my first* luxury item: The Gucci Marmont Belt. This week, I want to show you some details about the belt, but I also want to share some tips for when you’re thinking about getting a popular luxury item yourself and I also want to explain why I think this is worth the money, in my opinion. Let’s have a look together.
I still kind of can’t believe that I finally own something from Gucci, bought with my own money. That’s also why have put an * after “first luxury purchase”. Those of you who have been following me for a while, know I also own a Gucci Dionysus bag, which is amazing, but I did not save for it myself. It was a prize I won thanks to Belmodo (Belmodo, you rock!). As much as I adore that bag, it feels like I’m cheating sometimes because I did not buy it myself. But since I have become such a die-hard Gucci fan, it was only logic for me that I would start saving up for a little something myself.
And with that… I present to you: my Gucci Marmont Belt
Gucci is cool. The brand has been reinventing itself for a while now and it seems like they’re succeeding. Under the supervision of their new Creative Director Alessandro Michele, Gucci has succeeded in becoming the brand everyone wants to own. Not only did he revamp Gucci’s image, he also gave the logo a new look.
From the moment I first saw the revamped logo, I fell in love with it. I don’t know why… It just looks classy and chique, but not old or outdated. I wanted to get something with this logo, but because I can’t afford an expensive leather bag, I decided to look at the accessories.
I fell in love with this belt, but little did I know it would be so hard to get it. After months and months of debating and saving, I finally got the sum together. But when I called the stores, the belt was sold out everywhere. Not only in Belgium, but everywhere. Of course, I could order it online (Gucci has a very good webshop), but it being my first luxury purchase, I really wanted to get it in store.
A week after having called the store in Brussels, I decided to go to the store in Antwerp, where they put me on a waiting list. Props to the sales women in the Gucci store because they were super friendly. To be honest, I was afraid to be looked down upon… I mean… A 21 year old walking into a Gucci store… I don’t know. But hey, they were amazing and helped me pick out a size and put me on the waiting list. These lists are tricky because the sales reps are not able to tell you how long you’ll have to be on that list. It could be a week, but it could also be a few months.
I went home and about an hour later, the store in Brussels called me! They received the belt and wanted to know if I was still interested. As I had already put my name on the waiting list in Antwerp and paid a deposit, I couldn’t get it! Just my luck. ?
Fortunately, about a week later, the lady from the Gucci store in Antwerp called me to inform me that my belt had arrived. Yass! In total, I have waited about 3 weeks, which is okay for such a popular item. Want to get the belt yourself? I really recommend going into the store to put your name on the waiting list. It’s the only way you’ll be sure to get your piece before someone else does. You need to pay 5% of the retail price, but that’s also your insurance that you’ll be the first they call once the item arrives.
For reference: I got size 85. Sizes range from 70 to 115, which is the measurement of your hips on low-rise pants.
There are three versions of this belt: A small one, a medium one (the one I have) and a very big belt, with prices accordingly. The smallest size retails for €260, the medium is €350 and the biggest belt sells for €790. The leather version comes in 4 colors: black, brown, blue and pink, but there are other finishes as well.
I know. The price point is steep for a leather belt. But that’s what you pay for luxury. Is it worth it? That’s a personal question. Some people will agree, others vehemently won’t. And that’s okay. In my opinion, it’s worth it: you get the best Italian quality, a belt that will last you a lifetime and a relatively affordable luxe item to make your whole outfit look chic and classy (without having to spend thousands of euros). Just like some people are obsessed with cars, horses or stamps, I really like to read and know all about luxury brands. In the end, it is my decision what I spend my money on, just like it’s your decision if you don’t want to spend money on luxury. ?
Interested in luxury, but like me a student or just not wanting to spend tons and tons of money on a bag? Go for small leather goods or accessories (think belts, card holders, agendas, broches…). They’re a relatively cheaper way to vamp up your look and give it that little bit extra. You can also look at second-hand shops. There are endless online shops where you can find bargains. These shops often check the quality and authenticity for you, which is important if you’re buying second hand. Examples are Preloved by Nanouk and The Luxury Closet.
You may love it, you may hate it, but I know I adore it and that’s the most important thing. You’ll probably see me wearing this belt a lot in the future and I won’t be apologising for it. ?
If you have any questions about the service or details of this purchase, don’t hesitate to leave a comment. I’ll reply with pleasure.
As always, have a nice day,
