G oodmorning lovelies! Days are getting shorter and with that, I am also getting shorter on time. I’m sorry for the lack of activity on my blog, Instagram or Facebook page. but exams are nearing fast and sometimes I need to pick my priorities. However, I really wanted to get this review out there, because I know a lot of you might be searching for the perfect Christmas & NYE makeup. Stop looking, I think I found some perfect little products for you: the Merry Metals Collection from L’Oréal.
If we may believe L’Oréal Paris, the makeup-trend during the festive season is metallics. As long as it shines, glitters and shimmers, you’re good to go. I was able to follow one of L’Oréal’s intimate Xmas Master Classes, in which we got to learn all about the trends for this Winter. I wanted to share with you what I learned, as well as give you my opinion on the products I received.
Lip Paint – Metallic
From top to bottom: Cute but Psycho, Lolita, Pixie
Let’s start with the lips (usually my favorite part of the makeup-look). Whereas matte lips were the trend in 2016 and the beginning of 2017, you now find metallic looks everywhere. It started coming up slowly, but now, almost every brand is offering it in all shades, types and ranges; from very neutral to extremely colorful and daring. For this season, L’Oréal Paris came out with three very wearable metallic lip paints to follow up on that trend. They’re not very bold, which is why I personally like them. They are definitely metallic, but not in-your-face or flashy. You can wear them on daily basis, or to pump up your party look. A negative would be that I do think they’re a bit drying. Make sure you scrub your lips and use a lip balm before applying these or your lips will feel rather dry.
Tip: keep smiling while the lip paint is drying. I find it helps prevent the lipstick from creasing into the lines of your lips. Bonus if you use a lipliner underneath.

L’Oréal Paris Glow Drops – Highlighting Fluid
Next up is the face. Highlighting is definitely one of the most popular trends of this year; and it’s here to stay. L’Oréal Paris glow drops come in this inventive glass bottle with pipette to make sure you get the right amount of product. A little goes a long way! One drop is almost too much to cover those cheekbones, so be careful not to use too much.
You can choose to separately highlight the cheekbones and other prominent parts of your face, or you can mix it in with your foundation for an overall dewy finish. I prefer to apply it on the cheekbones and temples separately, as a base for my powder highlight. It’s a very versatile product that you can wear both in Winter and during the Summer days, which is why I love this. I would’ve loved to see a darker, more golden shade too though, because unfortunately for deeper skintones, this will look rather off.
Retail price: €14,99.
L’Oréal Paris – The Glow Kit
From left to right: Incandescent, Cheek on You, Make Me Flush, Metallicious, Pearlista
I apologise for the broken palette; I travel a lot back and forth and unfortunately, the palette didn’t survive this. However, I still wanted to add this product to the review, because besides from it being vulnerable, it’s pretty amazing. This palette works for several skintones: the two lightest are perfect highlighter for a light skintone, the blush looks good on light and deeper skintones, and the browny and golden highlighters will look stunning on deep skintones. Combined with the glow drops, this highlighter really pops. It’s also a very versatile palette: you can use the shades as eyeshadow as well. So many possibilities! The swatches don’t do justice to to the actual product. It’s hard to get a shimmery product on camera, but I can assure you that you will glow like the gods when using this palette (especially with Incandescent and Cheek on You)
The palette is currently available on ASOS for €14,04, or in your local drugstore for €17,99 (Kruidvat, Di).
L’Oréal Paris Metallic Eye Paint
Left to right: Diamonds, Man Down
Next up are the eyes. These two products are stunners! They’re eye paints, which means they’re liquid eyeshadows. Usually, I would use an eye paint as a base in order to make another glittery color (with a dry texture) pop more. But these two are so pigmented, you don’t need to layer anything on top of them to make them shine. However, I would still recommend some powder-y eyeshadow on top to make sure the shadow stays locked in. After a whole day of working, loving and living, the eyeshadow tends to crease. Using a good eyeshadow primer and a glittery color on top, can prevent this from happening.

L’Oréal Paris Gold Superliner
You may know L’Oréal’s Superliner in black, which is a staple among many beauty gurus. Well, they added a festive twist, and came out with a golden version of this all-around favorite. I prefer to use this eyeliner in the inner-corners of my eyes to make them speak. During the Master Class, we learned that it’s trendy to mix metals. Whereas people used to only use one type of metal and stay with this color throughout the look (and outfit), it’s now okay to mix & match, for example gold and silver. Warm and cool tones. This way, you can use Diamonds (the eye paint) on your moving eyelid, Man down in the crease, a black eyeliner to bring it all together, and a touch of golden eyeliner above or underneath the black, to make it stand out. You’ll see what I mean in the next picture.
Retail price: €14,99
Festive, right? I personally would pick either eyes or lips in using metallic textures. In my opinion, using metallics on both eyes and lips is a bit of an overkill. Buy hey, if you want to glitter all the way, you go girl!
This Merry Metals collection is very limited edition and might be already running out of store by the time you get to it. However, you should be able to find it in your local Di, online on ASOS or bol.com. I will add the pricing as soon as I get more information from L’Oréal.
What are your favorite products? Let me know in the comments! I am definitely in love with the highlighters and the eye paints. If I had to recommend one product, it’d be the glow kit, because of its versatility and quality (just be careful you don’t break it like I did).
have a lovely day,
